Fire Compartmentation Surveys

Containing Fire. Protecting Escape.

Effective compartmentation helps contain fire and smoke within the area of origin, protecting escape routes and limiting fire spread through a building. Its performance can be compromised by poor original installation, subsequent alterations, unsealed service penetrations or damage that has occurred during the life of the property.

Our compartmentation surveys examine accessible fire-resisting walls, floors, ceilings, risers, service penetrations, cavity barriers and fire-stopping arrangements. The scope can range from a targeted non-intrusive review to a more detailed intrusive investigation, depending on the building, available information and purpose of the instruction.

Defects are recorded with photographic evidence, location information and a clear assessment of their significance. The resulting information can be used to define remediation works, obtain contractor quotations, monitor repairs and provide a more reliable record of the building’s passive fire protection.
