Understanding fire risk appraisals.
We undertake fire risk appraisals of external walls in accordance with PAS 9980 for existing multistorey residential buildings where the construction and performance of the external wall require further evaluation.
The appraisal considers the materials, configuration and fire performance of the external wall, together with the height, layout, evacuation strategy, fire safety systems and overall characteristics of the building. Available drawings, specifications, previous reports and product information are reviewed, supported by site inspection and intrusive opening-up where this is required to establish the wall construction.
The outcome is a proportionate assessment of the risk of external fire spread, supported by clearly documented evidence, assumptions and recommendations. Our advice can inform remediation decisions, asset-management planning and discussions with residents, lenders, insurers and other stakeholders.
